In the present essay, it is proposed to address Colombian foreign policy since 1920. This was a pivotal moment as it marked the first formal recognition of a behavior of subordination in terms of international relations with the United States, through Marco Fidel Suárez’s “Respice Polum” doctrine - looking to the north. Additionally, it aims to critically examine Colombian nationality concerning its implications within the framework of adherence to the Monroe Doctrine. To achieve this, the objective is to identify the direction of the measures taken during the implementation of the Suárez doctrine in foreign policy. Furthermore, it will delve into core aspects of nationality it-self, considering a unique case, and its implications. These elements shaped the orientation and doctrine that Colombia began to develop in its foreign policy, which has endured from 1920 to the present day.
