Abstract

This article analyzes the main characteristics of young NEETs in Colombia, that is, those who are between 15 and 24 years old, do not study, work, or train. Probit models are estimated in order to find the determinants that affect the probability that a young person becomes NEET and the analysis is carried out with emphasis on differences by gender, using the Large Integrated Household Survey (GEIH) of the year 2019. Differences by gender are evaluated by estimating regressions for men and women separately, where different patterns are shown. Additionally, a brief description is made of the impact that COVID-19 has had on the condition of NEETs, comparing the May-July quarter of 2019 and the same period in 2020.
