Abstract

This paper presents a research regarding the indicators about multidimensional poverty of Colombia at the departmental level for 2018, in which an analysis of the relation of poverty in relation to the geographical location was performed. This document establishes the relations of the spatial dependence of poverty at the departmental indicator, of the headers, and populated centers and dispersed rural in the country. This relationship was measured by Moran’s I globally and locally. Tn the same way, the statistician indicators allow to establish poverty clusters to determine if there are contagious effects in those indicators. The results show significant evidence about the spatial dependence for the three levels of disaggregation mentioned, displaying that the geographic location is essential for determining the multidimensional poverty of the country. This means that the fact that a department is close to neighbors with high or low poverty indicators is a major determinant for its own indicators, either as a result of the natural endowments of factors, of externalities, or a combination of both.
