El Túnel, oscuro y solitario: a propósito de El Túnel de Ernesto Sábato

Abstract

“My head is a dark labyrinth. Sometimes there are lightning flashes that illuminate some corridors. I never know why I do certain things”, this is a clear synthesis of what Ernesto Sabato gives us in his writing El Túnel (The Tunnel). He seeks to give priority to reason and leave emotion aside, which means that, when it comes to acting in any situation, it is necessary to deliberate, examine and then decide. For this it is important not to stray from the path and to keep focused on the goal and not to lose the essence of being, to preserve the seed, which enlightens us and helps us to think well before acting.

Life is full of existential events and we usually question our inner selves and do not focus on the need to manifest our mental representations, make sense of them and seek to understand them, we must start from a self-control and good management of our thoughts, so as not to incur in self-destruction. In circumstances we all start from a subjective reality, taking our experiences and emotions, to transform them into our own world, building the behaviour and decisions we make. Sometimes we allow ourselves to be overwhelmed by thoughts that are even more painful than existence itself, we tend to be a fallible species and that makes us fearful, it disturbs us not to have control of our emotions; therefore, it is essential never to let despair, hatred and rage consume us, because this leads us to an abyss and blinds our course.
